Poem 138- Central Reservation

Central reservation

Jump in the car
Engage the clutch
Drive not too far
Push not too much
Slide round the corner
Slow down just enough
To look in the window
Just looking is tough
Breathe slower as if its all fine
Don't send that text
Don’t mess with your mind
Don’t share the news
You’ve been waiting to share
To give only good things
That wouldn’t be fair
To act like they’re the
Only one
You could tell like before
Don’t stop the car, don’t open
The door
Don’t expect explanations
Regret or remorse
Don’t exchange any words
That imply extreme force
Don’t say curse words, don’t
Tell a lie
Don’t say it will all be well
Don’t give it a try
Don’t allow hope for change
A moment of weakness
Don’t let it be known that you,
You seek … this

Because you don’t, you wish you did
But you don’t
Wish for no change and you
Wont be disappointed
As you drive towards
The central reservation
Leftover

Inside.
